However, things are hard to believe given the fact that they remained in the house for the next 6 days and turned away all visitors. Their weird behavior made Fugate’s relatives suspicious that something might have happened, and a few days later, their scary thoughts came true: the bodies were found in outhouses on the grounds.

After these tragic events, they left her home and drove around Nebraska and Wyoming. The young couple proved that they were not innocent and killed another 6 people until they were arrested. When the police found them and discovered more about the things they did, they decided that it was better to sentence the boy to death and he was executed on June 25th, 1959.

The girl tried to convince the officials that she was only a victim and that she only did what her boyfriend told her to. Before he died, Charles Starkweather admitted that he murdered the majority of their victims, but he stated that his girlfriend killed some people too.

The authorities decided that they needed more evidence to see whether her story was true or not, but they found that Fugate had many occasions she could’ve run away from the 19-year-old man, but she just didn’t do it.

Caril Ann Fugate was given a life sentence at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women in York, Nebraska. After some time, the Nebraska Board of Pardons lowered Fugate’s sentence to 30 to 50 years in prison in 1973, which made her eligible for parole. In 2007, she married Fredrick Clair, but the man died in 2013 in a car accident.
