In 1973, a joke made by Johnny Carson resulted in a toilet paper shortage
Remember the 1973 toilet paper shortage in the United States? Do you know where it started? Well, that shortage was the result of “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson”, and its wonderful monologue: “You probably know that we’ve got all kinds of shortages these days.
However, have you heard the latest? I’m not even joking. I saw it in the papers. There’s a shortage of toilet paper!” Curious or not, the country was already dealing with a commercial toilet paper shortage, but Carson’s writers did nothing but write a couple of jokes that were talking about a general shortage. However, the panicked viewers took him at his word.

All thanks to crooked, creepy, senile joe!
You’re a sheep. No man should be worshipped, that only belongs to God.
I found this so interesting as I do remember some of the shortages, but never knew the reason why? I love learning about history as one is never to old to learn something new. Thank you so very much.
