The Bhopal Disaster

The Bhopal Disaster happened in 1984 and is still one of the largest industrial disasters in history. In the accident, 3,787 people died, but in reality, authorities believe there were way more. People say that given the amount of damage and exposure, the casualties might sum up somewhere around 16,000 people.

Besides the deaths, 558,125 people were badly injured. It all started with a massive pesticide leak, with all the tanks at the plant utterly failing to keep them at bay. Moreover, it has been discovered that all the critical safety equipment wasn’t updated, which is one of the reasons why it led to such a disastrous event. Besides the human casualties, the Bhopal fix cost $860 million.

The Collapse of the Charles De Gaulle Airport

Back in 2004, a terminal at Charles de Gaulle Airport simply collapsed. It had many structural defects, which also included issues with the concrete ceiling. According to a study, there was a certain fluctuation in temperature, which ultimately led to the outer steel expanding and contracting.

Paul Andrieu, the designer of the terminal, blamed everything on the companies that built it. He said they didn’t ensure the reinforced concrete was safe enough. The whole incident cost $900 million to fix.
