3. Alaska was once Russian
We previously mentioned that America’s not as old as other continents, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have an interesting history. One point that was somewhat contentious for a time was that Alaska wasn’t a part of the United States until the early 19th century. In actuality, the state belonged to Russia, and it didn’t become a part of the US territory until it was sold to the Americans.
Alaska didn’t technically become a state until 1959, which was nearly a century later. The nation’s tallest mountain, Denali, as well as many other national parks, are currently located in the state.

They could have said what year the USA acquired Alaska.
Also, that Hawaii was annexed to the USA several years after the Hawaiian kingdom was overthrown by American citizens.
