3. The fabulous crown of the Statue of Liberty might be an ode to pirates
You’re probably familiar with the Statue of Liberty’s seven piercing points on its crown. But did you know the symbols behind it? In actuality, the rays are intended to form a kind of halo called an aureole, which the sculptor intended to be distinct from the crown.
Furthermore, the fact that there are seven of these rays is noteworthy; although opinions on this matter vary, some believe that the seven rays symbolize the seven continents and the seven oceans.
2. The Northern and the Southern part of America, both reunited at the Lincoln Memorial
Right on the Northern mural, there is a great painting with a beautiful representation of the North and South joining hands. This artwork, named Unity, is positioned above the inscription of Lincoln’s second inaugural address.
