2. The Great Pyramid of Giza was built 2,510 years before Cleopatra was born

Another interesting fact that caught our attention while we were researching various history facts is related to ancient Egypt and the Great Pyramid of Giza. Between 2680 and 2560 BCE, during King Snefru’s fourth dynasty, it was constructed. The Giza plateau provided most of the stone for the original pyramid, which was erected by hired laborers and stood 481 feet tall and covered more than 13 acres of land.

Despite many people’s beliefs that the Giza pyramid is connected to Cleopatra, she wasn’t born until 69 BCE, which is way after the pyramid was built, and she didn’t succeed her father as ruler of Egypt until 51 BCE.

3. Cleopatra wasn’t Egyptian!

One of the most interesting facts that left most of the people stunned was about Queen Cleopatra, whom everybody thought was born Egyptian. As far as historians can tell from various studies on Cleopatra’s ancestors, she was born Greek! She was a direct descendant of Alexander the Great’s son, Macedonian General Ptolemy.

  1. At the beginning of World War I, observation balloons were so important that enemy forces tried to shoot them down. An Italian biplane pilot was harassing and shooting his revolver at an unarmed balloon observer when the man grew frustrated and threw his map case at the pilot. It hit and briefly stunned the pilot, who lost control of his plane and crashed. The incident remains the only time a balloon defeated an airplane in combat.
