5. Women’s exploitation

Up to 200,000 women were forced into prostitution by the Japanese army during the Sino-Japanese War and World War II. These mostly Korean women, known as “comfort women,” were transferred to brothels that served the Japanese soldiers all around East Asia. Women experienced repeated forced intercourse every day for years in the brothels since they worked long hours and were seldom given vacation time.

At least 400,000 women and girls were reportedly forced into slavery during World War II, according to historians, even though many records about them were destroyed after the war, and their legacy is still a point of contention between Japan and other former Japanese colonies in Asia.

Of course, this is another reason why we believe that Imperial Japan was worse than the Nazis, mostly because more than 90% of these poor women died long before Japan’s surrender, and those who survived these horrors never recovered from the trauma.
