8. The Watergate tapes
This is one of the good old presidential mysteries that intrigues the entire country, and the main character of this story is Richard M. Nixon. Between February 1971 and July 1973, he managed to record 3,700 hours of conversations in the Oval Office. It was all secret, and even more importantly, it was all forbidden.
All of these recordings became the basis of the Watergate scandal. During that incident, it was swiftly determined that the 18 and a half minutes of discussion between Bob Haldeman and Nixon were just some audio feedback.
Nobody is certain of what Nixon and Halderman were talking about, despite several attempts over the years to retrieve the tape that has come to be known as the “missing” audio. Because of this, the Watergate tapes will remain one of the most intriguing presidential mysteries.
