Dorothea Puente
This old lady may look like she is not capable of hurting a fly, but Dorothea Puente has been known under the alias of the “Death House Landlady” since the police discovered her horrible actions that went on for years in her Californian boarding house for the disabled and elderly back in the 1980s. Despite the fact that she used to slowly poison and kill her residents in order to get their Social Security checks and insurance, she had been living a life of crime ever since she started this scheme.
Known to have had a tough childhood, Dorothea Puente was a loner, and she has been doing petty crime ever since she was young. Eventually, she opened up her Californian boarding house, and then she used to collect her tenants’ Social Security checks and only give them part of the money they were receiving. Puente had been in prison once for money laundering and stealing through this scheme, and when she was released, she returned to her boarding house and resumed her activities despite having a parole officer.
The police discovered her scheme by accident when they were sent to ask about the whereabouts of one of the disabled tenants since he had disappeared. That’s when they discovered that she used to kill people in her room, and then she buried most of them in her backyard! She even managed to escape for a few days as the police were digging up her yard and finding more and more bodies.
In the end, she was caught and sentenced to life in prison back in 1988, where she remained until her death back in 2011 at age 82.
Still, she remains a prolific serial killer, and we wonder how much longer she could have gotten away with the murders if not for the police making that wellness check!
