He picked the location for the laboratory
Because the Manhattan Project was supposed to be a top-secret mission, the location must be chosen wisely too. Therefore, after he was named the head of the laboratory J. Robert Oppenheimer chose the Los Alamos Ranch region as appropriate for the project.
Besides being a great location for what they had to do since it was isolated, far from civilization, and near a train track, Los Alamos was a place filled with memories for Robert. When he graduated from high school, he was ill with a severe bout of dysentery, which prevented him from initially enrolling at Harvard University. Because of that, his parents took him to a dude farm in New Mexico for the summer to recuperate, and it was there that he developed a passion for horseback riding and a respect for the desert.
One Response
I was under the understanding that Robert Oppenheimer regretted his involvement in making the bomb after it’s use against Japan.
