Jim Jones had a troubled and unusual childhood
Many people wondered why he ended up so evil because, initially, he started his career as a man of God who preached social equality. But according to various sources, this kind of behavior started back in his childhood years in Indiana. He was described as lonely and rather shy while he was in school.
However, the few playmates who considered him a friend were later terrified by his attitude because they said that Jim Jones performed experiments on animals and held funerals for his deceased pets. It appears that he was also preoccupied with religion and death. Early on, Jim Jones was fascinated with Adolf Hitler, and when he killed himself in April 1945, he was moved by what he did.
The People’s Temple was founded in 1955
Back in the day, when Jim Jones started the religious cult, he wanted to have multiracial members, which got a lot of people mad. He wanted to gather people who were dedicated to helping him improve the world. And while this sounds like a dreamy goal, in the end, everything turned to dust. Jim Jones expected everybody to follow him and his ideology blindly.
One of the good sides of this cult was that a lot of the people who had trouble with drugs, crime, and other infringements willingly gave up their former lives, stepping into better ones full of redemption and community help. A lot of them said that they felt like they were in a family rather than a church.
